South Presbyterian Church is proud of many of our members who donate their time as volunteers to organizations in our community. Their purpose is to benefit others, not only within our church but to also serve the community. It is our pleasure to list them here in this column.

VOA Children's Center

The members and friends of South Church have been donating all kinds of art and craft supplies such as yarn, greeting cards, toilet paper rolls, plastic microwave dishes, styrofoam paper products, trinkets etc., to the Volunteers of America Children Center for several years. People bring their art and craft donations to church on Sunday and then, when the container is full, volunteers take all the supplies down to the childrens center.

Landscape Committee News

The Landscape Committee at South Presbyterian Church has been working over the past three years to create an outdoor sanctuary for the benefit of the neighborhood in which the church is located. We want our grounds to provide visitors a spiritually uplifting experience and a compelling destination that engages the senses - sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. We want it to be immediately recognizable as is a holy space and a witness to the glory of God. The Landscape Project has been accomplished through volunteer efforts of many people inside and outside the church. Each spring, Day of Caring volunteers help us with spring clean up chores. Every fall the University of Rochester assigns students to work with the church during Wilson Days. Most of the flowerbeds at the church have been created by University of Rochester students. Future plans include a second phase of landscaping to create

• A memorial garden where cremated remains can be placed
• A handicapped accessible entrance at the southwest door
• A fountain
• A sundial and a wind vane to call attention to natural forces
• A plaza that invites visitors to linger and rest
• A drinking fountain for adults, children and animals
• Increased parking space
• Lighting to provide accent and interest to various landscape features after dark

We are excited about the possibilities that creating an outdoor sanctuary has for the congregation and our neighborhood. We welcome all persons interested in working with us – inside the church or out.
